How to Grow Absinthe Wormwood

WHEN TO PLANT WORMWOOD SEEDS

Plant indoors 8-12 weeks before the last frost of the season. Due to the tiny and delicate nature of the seeds, sowing directly outdoors is not recommended.

WHERE TO PLANT WORMWOOD SEEDS

Plant in average soil. Dryer soils that are well drained and exposed to full sun (6-8 hours of sun per day) are strongly preferred. Wormwood can grow in partial sun (4-6 hours of sun per day), but may have some difficulty. Wormwood suffers in soils that stay wet and do not drain well.

HOW TO PLANT WORMWOOD SEEDS

When grown indoors, seeds should be pressed into the soil but not covered. Seeds should be placed in a well lit area but not exposed to direct sunlight, such as a window. Be sure to harden the seedlings properly 1-2 weeks before transplanting into the garden.

HOW TO HARVEST WORMWOOD

Harvesting of Wormwood is often done in the summertime while the plant is in full bloom. Pick the upper portions of the stalks (these are often a lighter green shade to the rest of the stalk) and hang them to dry in a dark dry place such as a garage. The plant may wilt or lodge in the summer, particularly in subpar soil conditions, which can be remedied by shearing the plant back in order to revitalize it. Trimming and deadheading can keep Wormwood from getting too tall and leggy.
