Days to Maturity: 120 to 140
'Heavenly Habit' Polemonium is a hardy perennial offering summer interest. Long and heavy blooming, the plant sets masses of star-shaped, violet-blue flowers, each with a distinct golden yellow eye. Borne in loose clusters on elegant, upright stems, the fragrant flowers attract butterflies and add delicate beauty to the garden as well as to summer bouquets.
'Heavenly Habit', a Polemonium boreale cultivar, also known as Jacob's Ladder, is a petite member of the phlox family. It has a clumping, mounding habit of bushy, fern-like deep green foliage that adds fine texture to small garden spaces. Shown to best effect when massed or grouped, it is a great edging plant in beds and borders and can be used as filler in a filler-thriller-spiller container.
'Heavenly Habit' Polemonium prefers full sun to part shade and average, medium, well-drained soils. The plant grows best in cool conditions. It is intolerant of high humidity and heat, so afternoon shade is recommended in regions with hot summers. If necessary, clip back the plant by half in midsummer to rejuvenate and encourage late blooms. Deadheading promotes flowering and maintains a tidy appearance. Highly deer resistant and generally pest free.
